The One Million Book Giveaway
Helping Every Child Discover the Joy of Reading
Dear [First Name],
I hope you are keeping well.
Over the years, I've been fortunate to meet some incredible people through business, and I'm grateful to count you among them. Today, I'm writing to you not about business, but about something that has become deeply personal to me.
As you know, I'm dyslexic.
Like many children with dyslexia, I found school incredibly difficult. Reading wasn't something I enjoyed—it was something I avoided. It wasn't until I was in my late teens and early twenties that I truly discovered the pleasure and confidence that books can bring.
Looking back, I often wonder how different my childhood might have been if someone had simply put the right book into my hands.
That thought has stayed with me.
It's why I wrote The Umbrella Girls and The Tree People—a children's story created by a dyslexic author, written especially to encourage children who struggle with reading, while still being enjoyable for every child.
But writing the book was never my end goal.
My dream is much bigger.
I've launched The One Million Book Giveaway – Helping Every Child Discover the Joy of Reading.
My mission is simple:
To place one million free copies of Book One into the hands of children around the world, helping them discover that reading can be enjoyable, confidence-building and life-changing.
I genuinely believe that every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading, regardless of their ability or their family's circumstances.
This is where I'm hoping you might be able to help.
I'm inviting a small group of business leaders and friends to become founding supporters of this mission. Your support would directly fund free books for children through schools, libraries, community organisations and family programmes.
For example:
- €500 helps provide approximately 100 free books
- €1,250 helps provide approximately 250 free books
- €2,500 helps provide approximately 500 free books
- €5,000 helps provide approximately 1,000 free books
Of course, there is absolutely no obligation. Even if sponsoring isn't possible, an introduction to someone in your network, sharing the campaign, or suggesting an organisation that might support the project would mean just as much.
I've spent most of my career building businesses, but this is different.
This is about giving something back.
If, together, we can help even one child discover the confidence that comes from reading, then every effort will have been worthwhile. If we reach one million children, imagine the difference we could make—not just to literacy, but to confidence, imagination and opportunity.
I would love the opportunity to tell you more about the campaign over a coffee or a quick call if you have the time.
Thank you for reading this letter, for your friendship, and for considering being part of something that I hope will leave a lasting legacy for children.
Together, we really can help every child discover the joy of reading.
Warmest regards,
Mark Beggs
